Chinese New Year (CNY), also known as the Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, is the most important holiday in China. It marks the beginning of the lunar calendar and is celebrated with large-scale travel, family gatherings, and cultural festivities.
Most factories in China close for at least 1–4 weeks during the Chinese New Year as workers return home, leading to:
- Production slows or stops in the weeks leading up to and following the holiday.
- Shipping delays are common as ports and logistics services also operate at reduced capacity.
- Order backlogs occur due to high demand before the shutdown.
Tip: Plan shipments well in advance of the Chinese New Year and expect longer lead times from mid-January to late February.
