What is a Chassis Split?

A chassis split occurs when a container and its required chassis are located at different facilities. In this case, the trucking company must retrieve the chassis from a separate location, which may result in an additional split fee.

Chassis splits typically occur when there is a lack of available chassis ports. To proceed with pickup, the trucker retrieves a chassis from a nearby pool and then heads to the container’s location.

If applicable, the chassis split fee will appear on your invoice as a destination charge.
